<p>Since the existing customers are familiar with the process, it will take less time and money to educate them about the procedures putting fewer burdens on employees also and making them feel more satisfied with their jobs. The customers are divided into groups based on their loyalty. This procedure is known as relationship ladder of customer loyalty. The groups in ascending order are prospects, customer, client, supporter, advocate and partner.</p>

Marketers of kids’ gear, food, cosmetics and clothes are good at reaching women, but women buy gender-neutral stuff too, like cars, auto services, technology and just about everything except Viagra.</p>
<p>One marketing consulting firm reports that 60% of women 16 and older are working. They comprise over half of all college students and about 38% of small business owners according to the 2002 figures of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. A February 2002 study by Prudential Financial found that of 400 American women surveyed, 37% live in households with incomes of $50,000 &#8211; $100,000, and 12% were in the $100,000 annual income range.</p>
<p>No business owner can afford to ignore this market, but not ignoring them is not the same as attracting them.  Attracting them is not the same as winning their loyalty, either. There is definitely a difference in dealing with women because they notice the small stuff.  While men tend to make judgments based on first impressions and key interactions, women never stop gathering information.</p>
<p>Women develop a collage of impressions about a business from a hundred small factors; everything from its cleanliness to the design of the shopping bag. Smart business owners turn this to their advantage by investing in small amenities women can appreciate. Many young women today are much wiser than the boomers were at the same age. They have traveled widely and are accomplished and picky consumers.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s been said over and over again, but newcomers to the industry should realize that they need to develop their own products and services. Commission dealerships are fine to compliment your business if the product is relative to your main product, but everyone should strive for developing their OWN product too. No one will ever get rich dealing in just commission dealer-ships. And people who think this way will give up over a period of time because they go broke. Let&#8217;s stop this madness and spread the word about becoming a Prime Source.</p>
<p>How do you develop your own specialized product or service? It may take a few months to get your &#8220;feet wet&#8221; in mail order to determine your particular &#8220;niche.&#8221; However, you should already know the talents you possess inside yourself and what your own capabilities are. There has to be more to your business than making money!<span id="more-67"></span></p>
<p>What are your hobbies and interests? What would you like to do more than anything else and would you do it if you were not getting paid?</p>

She also would be careful not to put any conflicting information in this special mailing she was preparing for specific customers.)</p>
<p>You can take anything you sell and creatively turn it into your own prime source product. A good friend of mine, Helen VanAllen loved to prepare big mails so she created the &#8220;Design-Your-Own-Big-Mail-Package.&#8221; Customers were presented with a list of the circulars Helen had on hand and they checked off the ones that interested them. This is one example of how an old concept can be turned into something new with a twist that makes it YOUR OWN product.</p>
<p>There are several ideas that other mail order folks used to create their own product. You can use the same concept locally also. If you sell vitamins, for instance, you could sell them in individual packets and label them for each day of the week. Use the vitamins from the company you are working with but the individual packets and labels would be your own product. You can also charge more for this personal touch.</p>
<p>You are unique! You are an individual who has special talents and interests. Your business should be a reflection of YOU and your own contribution to mail order. Mail order is a wonderful business, filled with some of the best people in the world. But it&#8217;s up to every one of us to keep it that way.</p>

<p>The owner of a new home cleaning service was trying to attract clients. She couldn&#8217;t afford much advertising, so she began offering &#8220;home cleaning seminars&#8221; to civic groups. After two months of seminars, she was swamped with inquiries and clients.<span id="more-63"></span></p>

<p>CONTESTS. Offer a desirable or unique item-or even several items-as contest prizes. First, find a contest theme that tiers into your business. A caterer might offer a quiche-eating contest. <p>COUPONING. Americans are very coupon-conscious. Test the market: at what level will coupons increase the volume of various product or service lines? When you get some tentative answers, start distributing coupons that offer a discount on your services.</p>
<p>Distribute them to area newspapers, on store counters, in door-to-door- mail packets (which can often be quite inexpensive), at the public library, at laundromats, at any location where people congregate.</p>

You can imprint your business name and the first names of the customers on many of these products at little cost and distribute them for free. <p>CELEBRITY VISITS. With a bit of persistence, you may be able to arrange to have a local media celebrity, public official, or entertainment personally-even a fictitious cartoon character or clown-visit your service. The celebrity can sign autographs, read stories to children, perform cooking demonstrations, or  perform any one of a hundred other traffic-building activities.</p>
<p>CELEBRATE HOLIDAYS. You&#8217;ll probably want to celebrate major public holidays with special sales. But celebrate some of the offbeat holidays as well. Almost every business has a few little-known holidays. Ever hear of National Pickle Day, for instance? Or Cat Lovers Month? Once you find the &#8220;right&#8221; holiday, you can sponsor a special sale or special product arrange special media coverage of a holiday event.</p>
<p>GO WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE. Can you open sales information booths at community fairs and festivals? This promotional technique can work for gift  retailers, craftspeople, and personal service firms. If you have the people and the time, can you handle regional fairs or even trade shows?</p>
<p>MAILING LISTS. Once you begin establishing a committed clientele, gather their names on a mailing list. Save the names from your mail orders and telephone inquiries. <p>On the company letterhead simply add a line at the bottom of page 1. It could be a “tag line” of sorts made up of a slogan that “brands” your services or business. Try to come up with something unique so that every time it’s heard the prospect thinks of you.</p>
<p>Examples of this would be, “Good to the last drop,” which of course is Maxwell House Coffee. “Finger-lickin’ good,” which is KFC chicken, and so on. You get the message of what I’m saying. Play around with this until you come up with a pearl that is uniquely you.</p>
<p>If your business/service does not lend itself to this idea, then focus on increasing your credibility by using a “membership” tag line. For instance a funeral home would be less than tasteful using the line, “Our clients are dying to visit us;” but they COULD use the line “Members of Undertakers Assoc. of America” at the foot of their letterhead. This establishes immediate credibility in the mind of the recipient, even if the letter they received was a direct mail advertising letter.</p>
<p>When you’re an entrepreneur in today’s marketplace you have to be inventive and creative to buck the “big boys” on the block. I suggest that every entrepreneur read about the life of Barnum to get a better understanding of a truly great entrepreneur.</p>
<p>It isn’t always the almighty dollar that gets the best advertising for our business; it’s the best IDEA that makes you stand out in the crowd.</p>
